Negative Numbers Using a Number Line
We are going to work out:
The first number tells us WHERE WE START.
The second number tells us WHAT WE DO.
In this case, we start at -7, then go forward 10.
Let’s draw the number line:
We know that 10 is bigger than 7. That means we will be going past zero.
We need to go forward 10. Let’s draw an arrow to show that.
From -7 to zero, we went up by 7. You can see this here:
But we need to go forward by 10. This means we have to go forward by 3 more:
3 more than zero is positive 3. So that’s our final answer:
