# Negative Numbers Using a Number Line

We are going to work out:

The first number tells us **WHERE WE START**.

The second number tells us **WHAT WE DO**.

In this case, we **start at -7, then go forward 10**.

Let’s draw the number line:

We know that **10 is bigger than 7**. That means we will be **going past zero**.

We need to **go forward 10**. Let’s draw an arrow to show that.

**From -7 to zero, we went up by 7.** You can see this here:

But **we need to go forward by 10**. This means we have to go forward by **3 more**:

**3 more than zero is positive 3.** So that’s our final answer:
