In every corner of life, we’re taught to pursue goals through effort, strategy, and grit.
Want wealth? Chase it. Want love? Chase it. Want peace? CHASE IT.
Every desire is attached to a tool, a method, a means-to-an-end.
“If I just have this, THEN I’ll be happy…”
But what if the entire framework is backwards?
What if God is not just the end we seek through our struggles, but the means by which all ends unfold?
The Illusion of Control
Most of us live with the illusion that we are in control of the process, that if we master the tools, tweak the tactics, and get the timing right, life will reward us with the outcome we desire. This mindset puts enormous pressure on the self and slowly erodes our connection to the Divine.
We end up worshipping the means—whether it’s money, hustle, charm, branding, algorithms, morning routines, or even spiritual practices—forgetting that these things only have power because God grants them power.
The Realisation: God Is the Means
When you abandon every means-to-an-end, you are not becoming lazy or passive. You’re simply discarding the illusion that the means have power in themselves. You are seeing clearly that everything flows from one Source. Not only is God the final goal—peace, fulfillment, union—but He is also the means through which every outcome becomes real.
It is not your hustle that brings provision. It is not your charm that brings love. It is not your discipline that brings transformation.
“He is the First and the Last, the Outer and the Inner.” (Qur’an 57:3)
God is the architect, the bridge, and the destination. And when you see this, anxiety disappears.
The Shift: From Striving to Surrender
This realisation produces a deep shift.
- Instead of chasing outcomes, you sink into presence.
- Instead of obsessing over the how, you align with Divine timing.
- Instead of treating prayer as a tool, you treat it as communion.
- Instead of hustling for validation, you rest in your God-given worth.
This is not passivity. It is surrender with trust. It is action without attachment. It is doing without illusion.
Living from the Source
When you see God as the means to all ends:
- You work, but not as a slave to outcomes.
- You speak, but not to manipulate results.
- You plan, but with full openness to redirection.
- You act, but every act is infused with trust.
This isn’t about giving up. It’s about giving in—to the flow, to the will, to the reality that nothing stands between you and your provision except the veil of disbelief.
Final Word: Let Go
Let go of your crutches. Let go of your formulas. Let go of the belief that you must force life to give you what God already wants for you.
Abandon every means-to-an-end.
And realise—deep in your body, not just in your thoughts—that God is the only means to all ends.
When you align with that truth, life becomes what it was always meant to be:
A garden where nothing is earned, yet everything is given.
Let thy Lord be thy Quest – (Qur’an 94:8, Arberry Translation)
Turn to your Lord for everything – (Qur’an 94:8, Abdel Haleem Translation)
